Alexa Hampton: "The little LBD"

Melissa and I were thrilled to have the opportunity to sit down for a little intro and chat with Alexa Hampton. What a wonderfully sweet and out going women she is. She is the daughter of the late Mark Hampton word renowned interior designer. I would say design runs in her blood. She is president of her fathers design firm.

When Melissa and I sat down with her she was just so open and refreshing. She has a furniture line with Hickory Chair, fabric line through Kravet, rugs through Stark and lighting through Visual Comfort. She was debuting a new furniture collection at this Fall 09 market. We were lucky enough to be able to get a photo and even have Alexa seated in our favorite piece from the collection, the "Grant Chair." It was the first piece of furniture my eye went to when we walked in the show room. The Grant chair has a distinctive horse shoe back with nail head trim. Alexa stayed seat in that chair when we spoke to her. She told use about the design process for her. She started design at 13 years old and she went on to graduate from Brown University and then did graduate work in art history at New York University's Fine Arts in Florence Italy and New York. She is an accomplished painter and renderer. She said that she will sit down and draw a design but says that over time it takes on a life of its own. It turns into something of it's own, it has its own personality.

Alexa started to design for Hickory Chair in 2005. She likes to think of her collection as the perfect LBD- little Black Dress. She makes classic pieces. You can dress her designs up and you can dress them down. You can do a lot with them. You can make your own statement with her pieces depending on what you accessories with. Again you can dress them up or down depending on your life style. This works for us! Her collection was just stunning and we had so much fun viewing it. It is a collection of forms from Swedish, Anglo-Indian, English Regency and modern periods. We hope you enjoy looking at her new collection.
