Holiday Advent Calendar

An Advent Calendar is a special calender that counts or celebrates the days of advent in anticipation of Christmas. The Advent Calender is a very big Christmas tradition at our house. The girls still love to receive their calender from their Grandmother. The calenders have always been placed on the chairs of grandchildren at Thanksgiving by their Grandmother at our Thanksgiving gatherings. They start to open on Dec. 1st counting the days until the 24th of December. The girls now are far away from their Grandmother but she sweetly sent the girls one in the mail. Now they can start to count the days before they come home. She still know how important this tradition is to the girls. So may the counting begin to the Holidays!

This is really a tradition I need to start with my own children. I loved getting an Advent wreath when I was a kid.

What a neat tradition in your family! Grandma is so special to be continuing it today! I loved getting my Advent calendar when I was little, it was so fun opening it every day!

I love these! Still have to get one for this year. My mom has the traditional cloth one which is fun because then you just hang it up and never have to worry about buying another.

I love Advent calendars, I just got my daughter her first one this year. I had to stop her from opening all the little doors at once! I am looking for a more permanent one like one of the knit or felt ones you pictured. That way she can have it forever.

I love advent calendars. They allow children to celebrate simply all season long. My great-grandmother made one out of felt that we still use today! Great post!!

I LOVE the advent calendars.

The wrapped gifts in the bookshelf might be my favorite. If you had the room that would be so much fun to do!

We just got our son his first advent calendar- he's 2 and loves it (although I think he loves the idea of a little piece of chocolate in the morning). Can't wait to make it a tradition!
