Incorporating Garland into your Holiday Decorations *Re-Post from The Foundary"

Incorporating garland into your holiday decorations is an easy and affordable way to spruce up your home. Traditional garland is the long strands of pine that are sometimes used to make wreaths.  More modern versions of garland come in different colors such as silver and usually incorporate another form of decoration attached to the strands of garland.
I love garland around the fireplace and mantle area, along where the stockings are hung.  Not only does it smell delicious and wintry, it also looks amazing.  Winding it along your staircase is another popular way to incorporate garland into your home and if your staircase is close to or in your foyer, when guests walk into your home, it will be a wonderful focal point. The image below also has ribbons tied in bows where the garland is at the highest peak; another one of my favorite decorating ideas.

Not a lot of garland is needed to make a large statement.  Mantles with a small amount of garland intertwined combined with other decorations such as nutcrackers and hurricane lamps with candles inside, can be a great accent decoration. Garland can also be used as a gateway from one room to the next by draping the strands of garland around the frame of the door or window. I am also loving the idea of having garland framed around the outside of your front door so when guests arrive; this is the first thing they notice when they walk up to your house.
How fun is the garland here in this image wrapped around the columns of the entryway? Adding lights to your garland will spice up your holiday decorations.  I am incorporating Christmas lights into my garland as it looks very festive and fun! Lights are not the only addition you can add into your garland.  Feel free to try an arts and crafts project with your kids and create fun holiday cut outs of reindeer and snowmen to add into the garland that is draped along the mantle or around the fireplace and stockings. This will get the kids involved and add a personal touch that they can be proud of too!
*One thing to keep in mind when decorating with garland for the holidays is to make sure to keep it away from anything very hot or an open flame. If you put garland around your fireplace, make sure the ends are cut or tucked away so they do not catch fire.

Gorgeous Rooms-Painted Blue

It's no secret that blue is my favorite color, any shade I love it! These rooms are making me want to whip out the paint brush and add a little blue to my life (I can always use a bit more). These rooms will stand as some fabulous inspiration!

Or maybe a painted kitchen...

I'm also loving the idea of a blue accent wall,
in maybe a navy or turquoise. Love it!

This look is perfect, with the unmade bed
and blue velvet like panels!

Vintage 1785 Cottage

How excited we all were to see one of our most favorite designer, architect Barbara Garfield's house featured in Coastal Living. This shingle style cottage is located in Rowayton Conn. It was restored with vintage fixtures and original exposed architectural details. Designer Barbara Garfield stripped the house down to it's bones, uncovering beautiful hand hewn beams, wide plank floors, hand trolled plaster walls all create a cozy warm feel. Also what a beautiful festive Christmas tree. Have a great weekend.

Thing That I'm Loving

Tonight the boyfriend and I met up with one of my best friends at the Hotel Utah, which is not a hotel but actually a pretty great hang out for people who love live music! We got to experience an amazing band called the Odd Owl. Music is not something that I share about often here on our blog, but it is a huge part of what makes me, well, me!
Odd Owl CD Cover
Odd Owl was started this year by Carmen Caruso, Phil Jacobsen and J.D. Brown and I am so in love with their sound. My favorite song is "There Will Be Fun Songs", be sure to check it out on their Myspace page, link below!

Happy Thursday!

It's A Wrap

The holiday gifts all wrapped in their special ribbons and bows. In our family each girl has her own special wrapping paper and ribbon, so that their presents are special and individual. They take time wrapping and presenting their special presents. Here are some fun ideas to make those special gifts shine.

Holiday Wishlist *E-Reader*

This year, I have the Amazon Kindle or Barnes and Noble Nook on my Christmas list. I am obsessed with reading books, magazines and blogs and know I will get a ton of use out of the e-reader. Although having one of these awesome gadgets, the accessories available to carry them in are even more stylish and fun. The following carrying cases and sleeves are some of my favorite and I would love to be able to bring my e-reader with me everywhere!

*E-reader Cases:

Any recommendations on the Nook or the Kindle? I definitely need to go do some research on the two before Christmas!

Golden Birthday

It's my Golden Birthday!! I will be turning 24 on December twenty-fourth. And for my birthday this year I am celebrating at my apartment in San Francisco! I'm looking forward to decorating our place in a festive manner with lots of hanging lights, tea lights and roses! I pulled together a few inspiration images for the festivities, including some wardrobe selections!

Field trip......Wow this is just the place for a little field trip. We will be down in Boston soon picking up one of the little birds and les must see, smell, and taste. Also I think flour would make the perfect Christmas present for a special baker. If one attends cooking school one class is working with fifteen different flours. Who knew that there were that many different flours. Sticky buns and flour here we come!
