Less Expensive Option?

This Limited Edition Bottega Vaneta bag, featured on Elle Decor's What We Love Section, is not only the most gorgeous shade of blue but also the perfect shaped tote. I am in LOVE with this bag! So readers, here's my challenge and where I'm hoping you can help - any idea where to get something similar but less expensive?!

Bee Hive Cottage Guest Bedroom and Bath

Frances Schultz is at it again with the transformation of her gem of a house,Bee Hive Cottage. This time she is taking her awkwardly angled guest bedroom and bath from ho hum to wow. She works her magic with dark colors. She says you can paint small spaces with deep color tones. Really? Yes this will help the space lose all those shadows and the space will appear seamless, thus making it appear larger. What a great color she chose. One design element that we think is sheer genius is she used the radiator as a bed side table. She placed a piece of glass over the radiator cover then added a DIY  lamp on it. She has twin beds on either side of the bedside table.
Now the bathroom had great bones but was blah and lacked character. Boy did she add that to the space, using bold stripes and leaving the window treatment simple... The color of the bathroom and guest bedroom work well together, giving the spaces a cohesive feel. How great is that fun window seat with the striped welt. It really is all in the details that make a room.
We are looking forward to the next installment of Bee Hive Cottage.

A trip to Home Goods!

Happy Monday to you all! It's raining here in San Francisco again. It's the pits...
Anywho, my girlfriend Michel and I took a little trip to Home Goods yesterday.
And they had everything I didn't need.
Cute lamps...

great outdoor party items...

 and fabulous accessories...

The one thing I did go there for, throw pillows and they literally did not have one cute pillow! Not a one. I left with a great cheese plate and some napkins. I was on my best behavior. But now that I go through my photos, I wish I hadn't gotten a few more items!

This is it...

...the ottoman I am going to get for my living room.

 Essex Upholstered Ottoman from {West Elm}

Cassandra had put together a room inspiration board for my living room shown {here} that I absolutely loved! She put a sofa in the space, however instead of the chairs from Urban Outfitters, I wanted to incorporate a more comfortable chair, like the armchair from Ikea.
Since the space is on the smaller side, I decided to do two ikea chairs...

(here is one pictured...sorry for the phone image, when I get my ottoman I promise to take a better pic).

For a while I had no furniture in the living room and spent most of my time watching tv on my bed. I am so glad the living room is getting some face time!

Next on the list is to get a small table and chairs to use for dinner!

Kitchen Dining

Kitchen dining is an absolute must if you have the room. Even the smallest table and a few chairs will work. Just somewhere in the room to put the mail down, grab a quick meal with family, or coffee in the morning. These two images show some easy tricks to fit into small spaces. This old antique in the corner of the kitchen can be moved out to accommodate more seating and then can be pushed back out of the way. The second image incorporates stools around a kitchen table which adds height to the space and takes up a much smaller area of the kitchen because the design is taller rather than wider.

Gel Mats

Ok so we know this is not a glamourous post but, it's for our back and feet.  When we saw these great gel mats at the blog {Beauty and Bedhlam} we thought, ah ha! This would help Moms back and sweet Leslie's feet that she is on all night cooking her little heart out at work.  So we are going to order one for Leslie to take to work with her,  along with her apron and knives. These are from {Gel Pro Mat}and they come in some very pretty colors and finishes, basket weave, trellis and some of our favorites are light blue ostrich, red crocodile and rattlesnake.Matrha Stewart also has a line of these gel mats at Home Depot.

Color-Block Window Panels

Last week Cassandra posted {here} about the new editor at Architectural Digest and posted a picture of this month's cover. The room was gorgeous, sophisticated and right up my alley, but the thing that stood out to me as my favorite element were the window treatments with the color-block panels. I am drawn towards the neutral panels with a bold color block accent color, however, I also really love a neutral panel with neutral accent. Which is your favorite combination?

{Dwell Studio} will let you custom design the colors you want your panels to be.
Their website will let you play around with colors and fabrics to select the perfect custom combination.
Above is my selection of white paneling with graphite color blocking on the bottom border.

These window panels from {Bed Bath and Beyond} are an inexpensive way to incorporate color blocking into a room.
{West Elm} also carries a variety of colors and materials with color block detailing:

Differently Shaped Frames

Incorporating a gallery wall into my apartment is high on my list - and when I saw this gorgeous and simple one from Elle Decor I knew I had to save it in the inspiration files. When coming back to visit the image I noticed how much I love the triangle piece on the wall, adding an element of surprise!

I included a few other differently shaped frames as inspiration, from long rectangular,
 to circular,
And I just loved this wonderful twist of the unexpected hanging option...

White Out

As much as I love (as well as many people I know) color, there is something so clean, peaceful and relaxing about an all neutral room. Bathrooms that are all white with a small pop of color (such as a bouquet of colorful flowers) are just so tranquil, something we're all looking for in a bathroom or bedroom, right? House Beautiful this month had some great examples of all-white or neutral rooms and bathrooms.

This Room is Heaven

Margaret Russel, the new editor of Architectural Digest, is really pulling out all the stops. A long time reader of AD anyways, I was thrilled to hear that she would be bringing new life to the magazine. This new issue is totally proof of this. Has anyone seen the April issue? The cover stopped me dead in my tracks. The feminine, traditional touches mixed with the large scale modern aspects really took my breath away. I love it! What do you think?

Pops of Green

We could not resist a little green post. Hope you like the hints of green shining through. Looking forward to seeing clover and green emerald grass this summer.
