Kendra Scott Baubles

I have been so excited to visit the Kendra Scott
jewelry shop in Rice Village in Houston. They have
the most wonderful selection of jewelry, as well as
some fabulous technology that lets you customize
the different stones and metals (think touch screens and
gorgeous stones) and walk out with your creation. The stacking
rings, studs and selection of earrings are my favorite pieces!
What style do you love?

Pick your style...your stone color and your metal!

Elise Allen Painting on an Acrylic Easel

One of my post prized possessions is my Elise Allen Painting, that you
might remember from this post. I was playing around with
different places and ways to display it.
When I walked into CB2 I found the perfect thing.
This acrylic baby easel works perfectly with the painting. It really lets it shine!

J. Antonio Farfan Artwork

If you follow me on Instagram (melissaocole), you will have seen this
stunning piece of artwork from J. Antonio Farfan - I snapped
a picture of it while at brunch at Roots Boutique in Houston, TX.
The colors really made me fall in love and the bold abstract feel, along
with the pure size of the piece just really caught my eye. I couldn't help
but stare at it all the while I was at the restaurant and luckily I sat on the
table facing it directly. The pink, orange and navy combined with the gray
and purples at the bottom makes this piece unique and just outstanding.

(sorry for the instagram quality photo!)

Below are additional pieces from J. Antonio Farfan, the Houston
based artists - and while he doesn't have a website I could find, the few
pieces I did see have me wanting to see more!

Crisped Up Foyer

Tobi Fairley shows her design talent in this Birmingham house of Southern Living's Executive Editor Rachel Hardage. We have highlighted the foyer showing the fun details that completely transform the space. The lantern has been sprayed with navy paint. The x-bench in hot pink, is a high contrast that adds a spark of drama to the foyer. The ceiling was painted with a bold three inch band of navy on the ceiling. It draws the focus of the room up. This rooms has so many elements which are crisp and fun. Such a great way to enter the house!

Simple White Florals

Lately I've been having a love affair with simple white floral arrangements.
With touches of green and greys, in class or white vases, the
above images are the perfect inspiration.

We hope everyone had a lovely Valentines Day
and that you have a fantastic weekend!

Beach Getaway

With all of the bad weather lately (from the snow storm in the north -
to the heavy rain and overcast skies in the south) I have been desperately
day dreaming of a trip to the beach and just had to put together an
inspiration board of the outfit I would love to be wearing right about now...

Darryl Carter in Miami

With a trip off to Florida we were excited to see the design by
Darryl Carter of a condominium in Bal Harbor Miami.
That beautiful ocean and incredible beaches are such an inspiration to design around.
We are such fans of Darryl Carter and his paint colors for Benjamin Moore.
He is such a master of mixing old with new and has done this for his parents in their stunning space.
He has made their space modern but totally comfortable and livable with all their needs and wants addressed. He believes in decorating with collections and pieces that have been collected over time.
Wouldn't you just love to live in this home overlooking the ocean?

Alameda Flea Market - February 2013

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that this past weekend my friends Erin, Ericka and I
ventured over to sunny Alameda for the flea market. If you follow along, you'll also know that I passed on the above chairs. They were a total steal and very well could have been these Stendig "Prague" chairs
Lesson learned, never pass on something you can't stop thinking about!
The wood farmers table with the
white metal chairs, keeping this for on file inspiration.
Wouldn't this be a fantastic do it yourself art project?
Any kind of color spectrum, even just shades of grey.
And the architectural artwork on the right is what I came home with.
The frame is a burl wood with touches of gold. It's really the perfect addition to the etching
that I received from my wonderful and thoughtful boss Grant.

Valentine's Day Pinks and Reds

Rory Beca Lagoon One Shoulder Dress ~~ Loft Color Block Shorts
Old Navy Pink Active Top ~~ Dyptique Rose Duet Candle

Amanda Uprichard Staci Top ~~ The Limited Exact Stretch Pants
Mango Red Lace Skirt ~~ Valentine Heart Ring

Although I will be celebrating Valentine's Day alone this year,
there is no reason why I can't dress up in some of my favorite
colors (more so pink than red) and wear a really delicate heart ring.
Plus, why not do a little shopping for myself?
These colors are the perfect addition to my closet!

Design Apps

With a little help from your mobile phone, decorating can be a little easier.
By adding free apps to your phone, rooms can be measured, colors can be chosen, pictures can be leveled, real estate can be found, furniture can be spaced out and more.
These tools are extremely helpful when visualizing a room and spacing it out...Two of the hardest aspects of design. Have you tried any of these free apps?

Books

One of my favorite things in my house is our bookshelf. Seeing all of the beautiful
bindings of the books that I've loved reading and found such great inspiration from.
The shelves are constantly changing and being switched around.
This year for my birthday and Christmas I was lucky enough to have a few
new additions given to me and I wanted to share with you all.
Each one is gorgeous in their own special way.

Happy Weekend Everyone!
